Wondering what to expect? You’re not alone. We’re here to help you feel informed and supported.
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions—about logistics, process, cost, and everything in between. Here are some of the most common questions we receive. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re happy to help.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping to explore or work on, and any questions you have about the process. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—we’ll move at your pace and work collaboratively to build a space that feels safe and supportive.
How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Most people start with weekly sessions, especially in the beginning, to build momentum and trust. Over time, we can adjust the frequency based on your needs, goals, and availability.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, many of our therapists are in-network with several major insurance providers, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (Independence, Keystone Health Plan East), Highmark, and more. Some clinicians also accept Medicare. We’ll help you understand your benefits and what your out-of-pocket costs may be. Learn more about insurance and fees here.
What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?
That’s completely okay. Many people come to therapy unsure of what they need or how it might help. We offer a free 15–20 minute phone consultation to answer your questions, learn a bit about you, and help you decide whether it feels like a good fit. There’s no pressure—we’re here to support you in whatever way makes sense.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is deeply important to us. Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legally required exceptions (such as risk of harm to yourself or others). We’re happy to talk through any questions or concerns you have about confidentiality.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, we offer both in-person and secure telehealth sessions. You’re welcome to choose the format that works best for you. Some people prefer the flexibility of virtual therapy, while others feel more grounded in person. We’ll support whatever option fits your needs and comfort.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients?
Absolutely. We are deeply committed to creating an inclusive, affirming space where all identities are welcomed, respected, and celebrated. Our practice is grounded in cultural humility, anti-oppressive values, and a relational approach that honors your lived experience. Learn more about our LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming care.
How long will I be in therapy?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a few months to focus on a specific issue, while others stay longer for deeper, ongoing work. We’ll collaborate on your goals and regularly check in about how therapy is going so that it continues to feel useful and aligned with your needs.
What if I want to work on my relationship?
We offer couples therapy and relationship counseling for all kinds of partnerships. Whether you’re facing conflict, navigating transition, or looking to deepen your connection, we provide a space that honors both partners and helps you grow together. Learn more about couples therapy here.
